Another venture idea I came up with is to tutor students during lunch or afterschool at the school library or cafeteria. My target market will be grade 8-10 students because the homework is easier and they need more help. Students always have tests and homeworks they need help on especially near mid term week. I can teach them study techniques so they can study more efficiently. I can also go over notes and questions with them to make sure they understand it. Some students might can’t afford a tutor so I can offer them a really cheap price.

Venture idea
A venture idea I came up with is to open a café in the school that mainly sell hot chocolate and coffee in fall and winter. In spring and summer we can sell cold chocolate milk tea and ice coffee. So far, Trojan Market and cafeteria haven’t sold any of these two items so there wouldn’t be any competition. Even though students can go to seven eleven to buy it but they might prefer a closer store so they won’t be late for class especially in the morning. My target market is mainly grade 10-12 students because they have more homework and they sleep late, so a coffee or hot chocolate in the morning helps a lot when they feel sleepy. It can also make them feel awake and pay more attention in class. While we make the hot chocolate and coffee during lunch time, the smell of coffee can attract customer to come and create desire.

The first venture idea is very similar to my venture idea to sell coffee to the staff. You have decided to expand it by selling not just coffee but hot chocolate for winter time and when its warmer you plan to sell ice coffee and milk tea. If you plan to target the students I don’t think you would be that successful because majority of students only have hot chocolate during the winter time or other than it its back to pop all the time. You would attract more the staff. If your target is to sell these items in the morning: Caffeine in the morning? Wouldn’t that just give them the high rush and make them fidgety in class which would lead to distraction and upset the teachers! The second venture idea I don’t think would be so successful in school because you have a lot of competition: Homework club, skills class and teachers. Your offering to teach them on a pay when your competitors are there to help the students for free.

I like the first idea about coffee and hot chocolate. Though you may consider becoming more versatile and sell other drinks because not everyone will like drinking coffee or hot chocolate. How would you change your product to make it more noticable to consumers?
ReplyDeleteTutoring would be a difficult idea because there's competitions like peer tutoring, or homework club. Also if you were the one to help, you may not know the information that the students need to learn. If you were the only one supervising, it would be difficult to help every student.

I really your first venture idea! I think that it is a great idea because 711 is definitely a bit far especially if you need something during break. If you were to actually start this idea, I think that business would be great. Many teachers would also purchase the coffee instead of going to Tim Hortons or McDonalds every morning.
ReplyDeleteI think a tutoring service is good but you should have been more specific. Which languages would you tutor? The start up cost for this idea is nothing so it is a good idea.
I really love the first idea, it's really old school and brings back some childhood moments. Who doesn't want to enjoy some hot chocolate on a cold rainy day right? As for competitors, I think the cafeteria does sell tea and coffee. It would be really interesting to see the turn out.
ReplyDeleteThe second idea is awesome. It requires almost no start up costs at all and only requires the brain!
I like the first venture idea because it's simple. Making coffee, tea, hot chocolate and any drinks does not really require much work and the startup costs and ingredients would not be that pricey. Like I have already said on other people's blogs about tutoring services, it is a really great idea. It gives you flexible schedules (couple hours a week max) and you get to choose what you're tutoring for. Also, there are minimal startup costs and the main commitment would be time.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your first venture idea because its very demanding as far as I know. I'm fan of coffee, hot chocolate especially in this cold weather. You will definately attract customers for this idea and not only students can be the target market, also, you could make a lot of profit from the school staff because teachers, especially, are much more likely to buy coffee atleast once or twice a day. It'll be very convienentt for them because they won't have to drive outside of school just for a cup of coffee. You'll definately make profit.
ReplyDeleteYour another idea of tutoring students is quite interesting because there are a lot of students who need help with their homework and providing this at a very low cost could be very beneficial for students aswell as for you. As you know "word of mouth" matters a lot. Students will be telling their friends who need help and that will left you with a lot students and profit. :)

I like the first idea because currently the foods in school are limited and does not attract consumers. This is definitely profitable but some problems that may arise are food safe.
ReplyDeleteTutoring services can help anybody which is great because you can target every student and trying to create a high consumer base. Overall I like this idea but some problems are consumer's taste.
I like you're first idea, it is a good service for aiming towards a specific target and selling specific items. It would definately be very popular during the winter and every morning! I personally know many people who often drink coffee every morning.
ReplyDeleteYou're second idea would be slightly hard to get students because our school already offers homework club which is free. Also classes such as peer tutoring and teachers are also around. Therefore i think it's hard to find people to be part of your business and trust that you are a good tutor and so on.

Hot chocolate and coffee sounds really good because you are right, it is not being presently sold within DT. But I was just wondering where you’d sell it? Where are you going to get hot water from? What about the other ingredients that are needed to complete and cup of hot chocolate and coffee? Will it cost much to start up?
ReplyDeleteI think tutoring is a good idea but do you have enough time to tutor with being a full time manager and everything at Trojan Market already? Knowing you, do you are capable of teaching grade 8-10 subjects? It’s just something that I thought I’d bring up and for you to consider.
Overall, I really like your first venture idea it suits you more. Good luck with your venture Eva! :)
